VOLCANO PARK - naturally unique…

Katzenberg

Here stood the largest late Roman fortification in the Eifel and Hunsrück region. The fort was built in the troubled times around 300 AD, during which the Roman limes were being destroyed. To create a most realistic impression, around 70 of the fortress walls with walkable battlements and two of the towers have been reconstructed.

From the foot of the hill the Mayener lava stream flowed out of the shale into what was then the Nette valley.
